General Ed Transfer information
Washburn University has a formal process for evaluating and approving transfer courses for general education credit. Any course that is transferred to Washburn which has not been determined to be a transfer equivalent course by the appropriate Washburn department will need to be petitioned for formal approval to apply toward one of the general education distribution groupings (Fine Arts, Humanities, Natural Sciences/Mathematics, Social Sciences). Decisions regarding the university requirements (Mathematics, English Composition, Lifetime Wellness) are determined by the departments which offer these course, so you should check with the departmental chairperson of the appropriate department for transferability of the university requirements.

To determine if a petition should be submitted, students should first check the Transfer Guide at the following link:

http://www.washburn.edu/washburn/gen/washburn_generated_pages/Transferring_to_WU_m16.html

If a transfer course has been approved for general education credit, it will be listed on one of the transfer guides. Courses which appear on these transfer guides should slot appropriately when students run on-line degree audits available through the student tab on MyWashburn. If an approved course does not slot correctly, the student's advisor should notify the University Auditor so that the on-line audit can be updated.

If, in consultation with an academic advisor, the student and/or advisor believes a transfer course should be considered as potentially meeting Washburn's general education criteria, a petition should be completed by the student and reviewed by the academic advisor who will submit the petition on the student's behalf. The form should be submitted to the VPAA's Office in Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center Suite 200 by the submission deadline (September 15 for fall semester approval and February 15 for spring semester approval). The petition is available at:
