Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin are the founders of the Frontera Fund. They are also the cofounders of ‘’The New Times”. Lacey and Larkin have used most of their times in their career fighting for their rights.
The Frontera Fund supports the philanthropic group around Arizona that share a common interest with them. This is to ensure that the human, civil and immigrants’ rights are observed. Their current project is to help the DACA foundation from being closed down. This is after the Texas Attorney General accused the firm of not having the required legal documents.
The Frontera Fund was formed by the funds that the two journalists acquired as compensation in the sheriff’s case.
Lacey and Larkin published the evil deeds of the sheriff on the headlines of the newspaper. Being a respected member of the society, he became outraged. He responded by having the two arrested. He took them to an unknown location.
On learning of their arrest, the civilians demonstrated demanding for their release. Following this Protestants, they were released in less than 24 hours.
In court, they were declared innocent and received a compensation of $3.75 million. They used the money to begin the organization. Arizona immigrants were the first beneficiaries. Over the years, the immigrants have had a chance to enjoy their rights and improve their lifestyles.
The DACA Foundation
The DACA foundation was formed to prevent the deportation of immigrants who have technically been living in the US for most of their lives.
The Foundation gives the members an extension of two years after their deportation date. This gives them a chance to complete their education or gathers the required documentation to remain in the country. This varies from one member to another. The foundation currently has 800000 members. The beneficiaries of DACA are assets to the society. This is because after they become the required legal documentation, they use their salary to pay for car and house mortgages. This is revenue to the government.
